immediate aftermath.

Landing Craft Support (Medium). LCS(M)s were manned by Royal Marines.
Their primary task
was to assist in the establishment of beachheads for the oncoming waves of
regular troops about to land. Until the beaches and their environs were cleared
of the enemy the Royal Marines were exposed to heavy fire.

HM LCT(4) 479. This landing craft was amongst the first to
land on the Normandy beaches. It carried especially adapted
tanks with their Royal Engineer crews. They had the unenviable
and hazardous job of clearing the landing beaches of obstacles
in advance of the troops. |
