~ 'COMMANDO' BATTLEFIELD TOUR in TUNISIA ~
|
Although at the time of writing (23/03/11) it is safe to visit
Tunisia many people will be concerned about the political unrest in North
Africa, particularly in neighbouring Lybia. In view of this the planned tour
from May 28th to June 4th 2011 has been postponed until further notice. It's
hoped to re-schedule the tour later in the year. If you'd like more information
about the tour or to find out the latest position please contact Steve Hamilton
of Western Desert Battlefield Tours without obligation. See advice from the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office on the link below.

This new guided tour, exclusively available through this

Western Desert Battlefield Tours.
They will donate £100 per head to the
Combined Operations Memorial Fund.
Follow in the footsteps of the Commandos in the certain knowledge that you
will help build a memorial to the Command in which they served - Combined
Operations.
Background
In November 1942 as part of the
British 1st Army No1 and No 6 Commandos took part in
Operation Torch - the landings in North Africa.
After fulfilling their initial role as
traditional raiders, the Commandos were attached to various
infantry units of the 36th and 11th Infantry
Brigades.
The Commandos were recalled to the UK in
April 1943; No 1 Commando to prepare for operations in the Far East and
No 6 Commando to prepare for the Normandy landings. Although they did not
witness the final victory over the Axis forces in North Africa
in May 1943, the Commandos were secure in the knowledge that they had played a
notable part in the successful outcome. [Photo of Madjerda valley courtesy of Western Desert Battlefield
